Whew! Relieved that you recognized some of the same issues I had with the episode. That said, the status quo on secrets changes so fast in this series, I wouldn’t be surprised if Cat ‘s status changes again before the end of the season.

The cliffhanger battle was a little anticlimactic and I was a little more bothered by how melodramatic Astra was and uneven in her view of Alura… I don’t follow Astra’s prior rage at Alura.

All that said, I think there will be payoffs… resetting Astra, her slightly compromised in front of Non and her troops, Max directly showing his true colors, Kara being in on J’onn’s secret, and resetting Cat… I suspect it’s all a lot of necessary exposition that’s building towards something later.

I don’t really think being tricked by two people with super powers makes Cat look stupid. She has already shown that she is a very capable woman. Nor do I take issue with Supergirl telling a lie. There is so much dark and gritty sci-fi out there and so many flawed characters or anti-heroes (Arrow, Iron Man) that it is refreshing to find one like Supergirl. She is completely selfless, always acts with the best of intentions, and is the most noble person imaginable. So when she lies to her boss, I am willing to cut her some slack because I know her motives are pure, and she thought it was necessary to preserve her secret identity. It’s disappointing that Cat wasn’t brought into the Scooby gang, but to be honest, I thought it was too early for that anyway. They may be setting up an even bigger reveal later on, and when it happens, Cat will explain in that haughty manner of hers, something like, “oh of course I knew that from the beginning, I just wanted to see how long you would carry on that ridiculous charade.”
    Thanks for a great podcast.
